Great Barrier Reef Cruise: The Conclusion (Gold Coast)

Lance Again:

The last day of our cruise we disembarked the cruise ship early in the morning, but unfortunately we didn’t have a flight back to NZ until late that night.  We were stuck with a day to kill, a bunch of luggage in hand, and a little guy who never wants to stop moving.  We surveyed our options and unfortunately the airlines weren’t going to let us onto an earlier flight, and wouldn’t allow us to drop our bags off while we were at the airport that morning.  We did a quick analysis (I am an accountant after all) and it was just as expensive to rent a car for the day as it would have been to pay to store our luggage and take a bus into town.

We decided to rent a car and head down to the Gold Coast.  When we got into town, it had a very familiar feel to it.  Maggie and I were looking all around and we were getting a very “Florida” feel to the area.  Well turns out after we left we found out that the major developers for the area were the same people that developed Orlando.  Go figure.

We spent the day at the beach just hanging out and jumping through the waves.  We then took in lunch at the Nobby’s Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.  We got a little local tip and had an awesome lunch with the locals overlooking the water.  After lunch, we walked the beach again while James ran after the dogs that were running around.  We headed back to Brisbane to catch our flight back to NZ.  It was a great vacation, and we wished we had more time to spend in Queensland, Australia.
