Great Barrier Reef Cruise Stops: #1 - Airlie Beach

Lance here:

One thing that I was really looking forward to was the stop in the Whitsundays.   It’s a very popular Australian vacation destination with some beautiful islands around the tropical waters on the northern part of Australia.  Maggie was gracious enough to watch James while I took a jet ski tour around the Whitsunday Islands.  It was absolutely amazing.  I got to go around our cruise ship and then head around the different islands.  We stopped over at South Molle Island and hung out on the beach a little bit.  It was just long enough to see a sea turtle go by in the distance.  Apparently during certain days there are quite a few sea turtles that swim through the channels, but unfortunately because I have married Maggie I am now lumped in with her curse to never see any up close in the wild.

The Jet Skiing was amazing and the water was so tropical it was almost like swimming in bathwater.  I got back to shore just in time to meet up with the lovely wife who unleashed the little guy on me (for some reason I seemed to have had a better morning than she).  We all then walked back to the main part of town where there is a community beach lagoon.  This seems to be a common trend in all of the port cities in Aussie and it was so great for James.  The lagoon was the perfect depth for James to feel confident running around and dunking himself.  The water was a great way to cool off from the heat (Northern Australia is really hot!).

After playing in the lagoon we headed back to the boat to get ready for some dinner.  We were pretty disappointed we didn’t have more time in the Airlie Beach area.  It was stunning and had such a great feel to it.
